A single American oak cask from Dictador, Obra carries a 2000 Colombian to twenty-three years, maple and coffee over floral wood on the nose giving way to a sweet, oily, roasted palate and a peppery, chocolate-edged finish at 42%.
Description
Obra American Oak 2000 is a single-cask release from Dictador, drawn from a 2000 vintage and aged twenty-three years in American oak at Destileria Colombiana. As a vintage-dated single barrel from a brand otherwise known for solera blending, it relies on long tropical maturation in a single cask for its depth.
The aroma is distinctive, with maple and coffee sitting over floral, woody notes. The palate turns sweet and oily with roasted, wood-forward character, and the finish runs peppery with wood, coffee and chocolate. At 42% it is a rich, coffee-and-oak Colombian sipper that shows the house style at a venerable age, the American oak lending a maple-tinged sweetness alongside its darker roasted tones. It makes for a contemplative after-dinner pour, an old single cask that rewards an unhurried glass.
