A 26 year old single cask Colombian ron from Dictador, drawn from a 1996 vintage and aged in American oak, sweet and oily with mango, stewed fruit, tea and a roasted, woody depth at 44%.
Description
Part of Dictador's Libreto series, this is a single cask of Colombian rum distilled in 1996 and bottled at 26 years old from American oak. Dictador works in the Spanish solera-leaning tradition, and the house signature of coffee, cocoa and oak-driven richness runs right through it, here pinned to a single American-oak cask rather than a blend.
The molasses base and long maturation give a soft, oily texture and a sweet, fruit-forward character, with ripe mango, light tea and stewed fruit on the nose moving into a rounder palate of roasted, woody notes and dried fruit. The sweetness reads as part of the style rather than something the oak alone delivered, so it sits on the dessert-leaning side rather than bone dry. At 44% it stays mellow and unhurried, a sipping ron that trades on age, oily body and the familiar Dictador stamp.
