A 20 year old Dictador finished in port casks, sweet and fruity with coffee and honey over an oily, velvety palate, closing on pepper, smoke and chocolate, rich and rounded at 44%.
Description
Dictador Episodio 1 Port Cask 2001 is a Colombian release from the 2001 vintage, given a port cask maturation that pushes the house's coffee and cocoa character toward darker fruit and sweetness. Dictador is one of Colombia's flagship names, and the Episodio line sits among its more expressive, cask shaped bottlings.
Distilled on column stills and aged twenty years before its port influence, it carries a fruity, honeyed nose laced with coffee, then an oily, velvety palate that stays sweet and rounded, finishing on pepper, smoke and chocolate. The port cask adds a layer of dark berry richness over the rum's roasted backbone. Colombian ron commonly carries some dosage and the sugar status here is undisclosed, so expect a genuinely sweet, dessert leaning pour, generous and smooth rather than dry, well suited to slow sipping after a meal.
