A Colombian single-cask rum from a 1973 vintage matured in a whisky cask, unusually smoky with peat, oak and toffee over a soft, complex, roasted finish at 47%, an old ron with a Scotch-like twist.
Description
Dictador Best Of 1973 is an old Colombian single-cask ron, vintaged 1973 and, unusually, matured in a whisky barrel that lends it a distinctly peaty, Scotch-like character. Column-distilled from molasses in the soft Spanish style, it is bottled at a firmer 47% and stands apart from the brand's more conventional releases.
The whisky cask is the defining feature. The nose carries peat, oak, smoke and a clear whisky note, while the palate turns soft and layered with toffee and vanilla, and the finish lingers on roast, oak, spice and sweetness. The smoky, oak-driven profile gives it real interest, a long-aged rum that drinks more like a peated spirit than a typical sweet Colombian pour. As ever with the brand, enjoy the vintage as flavour in the glass, here a genuinely distinctive smoky single cask for adventurous drinkers.
