A single cask Colombian ron from Destilería Colombiana under Dictador, the Best Of 1972, an old molasses rum with caramel, vanilla and dried fruit leading into a woody, oily and spiced palate at 44%.
Description
Dictador's Best Of line draws on the oldest Colombian rum from Destilería Colombiana, molasses based and column distilled in the Spanish style where the cask defines everything. This 1972 single cask is among the more venerable releases, carrying the deep oak character that decades of ageing bring.
The nose is classically sweet for the house, with caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, while the palate turns woody and oily with spice and an underlying sweetness. The finish stays woody and spiced with a cherry note. As with the rest of the range these old Dictador rums lean sweet, and the sugar status here is undeclared, so the impression is rounded and mellow rather than dry. At 44% it is a slow, contemplative pour, a soft, oily and fruit driven expression of very old Colombian ron for drinkers drawn to the most aged end of the house.
