A Colombian column rum finished in Hardy Cognac casks, marrying butterscotch, vanilla and dried figs with toffee, nutmeg, oak and chocolate, velvety and lightly sweet at 41% with a genuine brandy lift.
Description
Dictador's 2 Masters series pairs the distillery's Colombian molasses rum with the cask expertise of a partner house, here Cognac maison Hardy, blending stocks vintaged 1976 and 1978. It is a collaboration bottling, column-distilled in the Spanish style and finished in casks that once held aged French brandy.
That Cognac influence is the headline. The nose offers butterscotch, vanilla and dried figs alongside a clear brandy character, with apricot and pencil-shaving notes underneath. The palate turns to toffee, nutmeg, oak and chocolate, and the finish stays velvety and softly spiced, sweet but trailing off dry. At 41% it drinks smooth and rounded. As with much of the brand, treat its stated vintages as a flourish and let the glass speak, which here it does generously.
