Dictador 100 Orange

Dictador 100 Orange is a flavoured release from the Colombian house Dictador, distilled at Destileria Colombiana on column stills and built on an 8 Year Old rum aged in ex-bourbon oak. It belongs firmly in the flavoured camp rather than the brand's straight aged line, so it should be judged as a citrus rum rather than a neat aged spirit.

The Colombian base would normally bring coffee, cocoa and oak, but here the orange dominates from start to finish: orange and orange peel with lemon on the nose, sweet orange and vanilla on the palate, then a bittersweet close of orange peel, oak and spice. It is openly sweet and citrus led, closer to a liqueur in feel than a dry sipper, which makes it best understood as a flavoured pour for those who enjoy orange and rum together. At 40% it is soft and undemanding, well suited to mixing or an easy sweet serve rather than serious contemplation.
