A coffee-led Colombian ron from Dictador, soft at 40%, that drinks more like a coffee liqueur than a dry rum, packed with espresso, cappuccino, chocolate and molasses over a long coffee finish.
Description
Dictador is one of Colombia's signature rum names, and this Cafe expression leans hard into a single idea: coffee. Colombia's Spanish-style rons usually run to coffee, cocoa and vanilla anyway, and here that thread is pushed to the front, so the bottle behaves more like a flavoured coffee rum than a neutral aged sipper.
Built on column-distilled spirit in the soft Dominican-and-Colombian mould, it pours intense espresso and cappuccino aromas with chocolate and molasses underneath. The palate stays on coffee, hot spice and chocolate, and the finish is pure coffee. Honesty matters here: this is sweet and unmistakably coffee-forward, closer to a dessert or a liqueur in spirit than a dry, wood-driven ron. Taken on those terms it is rich and pleasant, an after-dinner pour for anyone who likes their rum to taste of the cup.
