Diamond Volbeat Aged 20 Years 2001

Diamond Volbeat Aged 20 Years 2001 is a Guyanese rum from the Diamond distillery, a blend of pot and column still spirit bottled by One Eyed Spirit under a music-themed Volbeat label from a 2001 vintage. The mix of stills gives it some of the heavier wooden-still character alongside the cleaner column profile, a rounded twenty year old Demerara.

The nose is woody with vanilla, leather and an orange lift, and the palate brings wood, herbal notes, anise and more vanilla, nodding to the pot still side of the blend. The finish carries wood, orange and a sweet edge. Bottled at 40%, it is soft and easy to drink, though the reduction leaves it feeling a little thin for its age and some of the cask intensity has been watered down. This is an approachable, gently woody Demerara that trades power for drinkability, best enjoyed for its aromatics rather than its weight.
