Dark molasses, chocolate, oak and spice with a glue edged nose, a 22 year tropical Diamond Coffey-still Demerara from El Dorado’s Last Casks at 54.4%, dry, tannic and certified unsweetened.
Description
Part of El Dorado's Last Casks series, this is an official Demerara Distillers bottling from the Diamond Coffey still, distilled in 2000 and tropically aged twenty-two years. Unusually for the El Dorado name, it is certified unsweetened, a dry and serious counterpoint to the sugared standard range.
The tropical ageing drives deep oak and a dense body, with dark molasses, chocolate, oak and spice over a glue edged nose, finishing woody, tannic and faintly bitter with caramelised dark fruit. Bottled at 54.4% and left without dosage, it shows the wood and roast plainly, turning the El Dorado profile drier and tougher than most buyers will know it. Limited and pricey, it is a darker, more demanding sipper, and a reminder that long aged stock from these stills is finite.
