An unsweetened 24 Year Old Diamond from El Dorado’s farewell to its oldest stocks, off the Coffey column for a dry, woody profile of tropical fruit, solvent-like esters, herbs and a roasted coffee finish at 49.1%.
Description
Part of DDL's The Last Casks series, this 1998 Diamond comes off the metal Coffey still, the lighter and cleaner end of the Guyanese spectrum, yet two and a half decades of tropical ageing have pulled it deep into old oak. Unusually for the El Dorado name, this one is bottled dry, so the wood and fruit speak without any cushioning sugar.
Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon, it leans gluey and ester-driven on the nose, with yellow and tropical fruit threading through solvent and varnish notes. The palate is spicy, herbal and firmly woody, finishing on roasted coffee, oak and a contemplative dryness. This is a slow sipper for drinkers who want mature Demerara stripped of dessert sweetness, rewarding patience over power.
