Description
Destinos Cruzados Pousada is a white from D.O. Rias Baixas, made from Albarino and Treixadura by Destinos Cruzados, a project of Galician sommelier Oscar Cidanes and winemaker Marcial Dorado. The fruit comes from old vines on a riverside estate at Arbo, in the Condado do Tea subzone near the river Mino. This inland corner of Rias Baixas is warmer and drier than the coast, giving riper fruit while the granite soils keep the wine mineral and saline. Albarino leads with stone fruit and citrus, and Treixadura adds body and a floral note. Rather than the usual stainless steel, the wine is aged for twelve months in large oak foudres, whose size means gentle oxygen exchange and little oak flavour, so the fruit stays fresh while lees contact builds texture and a rounded weight. Expect a pale gold colour and a nose of white peach, citrus and white flowers with a light almond note. The palate is dry and textured, medium bodied, with stone fruit, a saline mineral streak and a long finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.

A natural match for shellfish, crab and lobster, with enough texture from the foudre ageing to handle richer scallops and prawns. It also suits grilled white fish and roast chicken.
