A gentle, fruit led single cask from Plantation, a 9 Year Old Peruvian leaning on soft vanilla, caramel, coconut and apricot at an easy 43.6%, an approachable everyday sipper in the house’s sweeter, double aged style.
Description
Plantation Single Cask 2010 is a 9 Year Old Peruvian ron from Destilerias Unidas in Peru, bottled by Maison Ferrand as a single cask under the Plantation label. The 2010 vintage spirit is pot and column distillate, double aged in the house tradition and reduced to a friendly 43.6%, aimed at easy drinking rather than intensity.
Maison Ferrand double ages in cognac casks and openly uses dosage, so the soft sweetness here is part of the recipe. The nose is gently fruity with apricot, coconut, nougat and dried fruit, the palate mild and barrel led with vanilla and caramel, the finish warm with vanilla, allspice and honey. It is an undemanding, vanilla forward pour that does not chase big intensity, the oak derived vanillin and light sweetness doing most of the work. A solid, relaxed choice for anyone who enjoys the easygoing Plantation house style and wants a soft, fruity sipper rather than a challenging cask strength bottling.
