Description
Del Maguey Santo Domingo Albarradas is a single village mezcal from the high altitude village of Santo Domingo Albarradas in Oaxaca, made from Espadin. It comes from mezcalero Espiridion Morales Luis, who has been making mezcal since the 1950s, and is produced by hand together with his son Juan. The bottling sits in the Del Maguey range founded by Ron Cooper in 1995, which names each mezcal for its village of origin.
Made in the traditional way of the village, this Espadin is pit roasted and distilled by hand. The nose is light and full of citrus, while the palate brings roasted pear and plenty of tropical fruit, turning spicy and woody before a clean, dry finish. Bottled unaged at 48 percent, the undiluted strength carries the perfumed, fruit forward character that high altitude Albarradas is known for and keeps the agave front and centre.
