Description
Dehesa La Granja is part of the Familia Fernández Rivera and sits in Guareña, in the south of Castilla-León. The estate covers 96 hectares of trellised Tempranillo in a region with a Mediterranean and subtropical climate of mild winters and hot, dry summers, where temperatures can climb to the low forties, giving fully ripe, generous fruit. The wine is made entirely from Tempranillo and given a long maturation, with twenty four months in American oak followed by further time in bottle before release. This extended oak ageing, with its slow oxygen exchange, softens the tannins and lends the wine its coconut, vanilla and sweet spice, while bottle age builds the leather and tobacco of a more developed red. The colour is deep ruby with a garnet edge. The nose shows ripe cherry and plum, vanilla, leather and tobacco. The palate is full bodied and structured, with ripe, well integrated tannins, dark fruit and a long, oak framed finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant ahead. It is built for roast and grilled red meats.
