An official Deanston, a 14 year old, at 46.3%. Soft orchard fruit and a honeyed wax. Its old weaving shed is now a cool stone warehouse for the casks. It is the only distillery in Scotland to make all its own power from the river. It runs an open top mash tun and long ferments for a fruity make. This is Deanston’s waxy, fruity Highland style.

Description
Deanston from the distillery, a 14 year old, at 46.3%. Deanston is a honeyed, waxy Highland malt distilled beside the River Teith since 1966. The site was the Adelphi cotton mill, built in 1785 by Sir Richard Arkwright and turned to whisky in 1965.
The spirit was mashed in the open top tun and fermented long for a fruity make, giving the soft, malty Highland spirit. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. The waxy texture is the Deanston signature, carried through the years in cask. The mill ran for 180 years before cotton declined and the site became a distillery. Deanston is the only distillery in Scotland to generate all its own power from the river.
At 46.3% it is clean and soft. A waxy, malty sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the cask. A honeyed finish ends on apple and a fiery oak spice. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
