Dead Reckoning bottled this ten year old South Pacific Distilleries rum from Fiji, a blend of pot and column still molasses spirit. Fiji is prized for its fruity, estery character, and here that base is wrapped in a generous Moscatel wine cask influence that steers the rum toward ripe orchard and tropical fruit.
Matured to ten years and finished in Moscatel, it pours fruity and floral with dried apricot, pineapple, banana, vanilla and a coffee edge, all set against resinous, piney wood with firm tannins. At 47% and with no added sugar, it stays expressive but never aggressive, dialling back Fiji's high-ester intensity in favour of wine led fruit. A rewarding way into the island for those who enjoy sherried and wine finished rums.
