Description
De León Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila drawn from highland agave grown in the iron-rich red soil of Los Altos in Jalisco, where the larger, sweeter piñas tend toward fruitier, rounder profiles. The brand presents itself in a custom heavy-glass bottle, and reaches its depth in only two distillations, keeping the character built during fermentation.
The spirit is aged for over a year, first in American oak and then finished in French oak wine casks, a sequence that pushes rich caramel, sweet oak and dried fruit. The distiller cuts the heads and tails of the run so only the heart is bottled, which shapes a subtle, velvety profile. On the palate it is soft and smooth, with butter toffee and dark cherry lifted by mild wood notes. Bottled at 40% in the highland style, balanced and gentle rather than oak-heavy.
