De Ladoucette Pouilly-Fumé is a Loire Sauvignon Blanc from one of the appellation’s most famous estates. Aged in stainless steel to keep it fresh and floral, it is a crisp, mineral white of citrus, green apple and white flowers with a flinty edge.
Description
De Ladoucette makes this Pouilly-Fumé from Sauvignon Blanc in the eastern Loire, where the estate holds some of the appellation's most extensive and celebrated vineyards. Pouilly-Fumé sits on the right bank of the Loire opposite Sancerre, on soils that include limestone and, notably, flinty silex. This flint is often credited with the smoky, gunflint character that gives the wine its name and its mineral signature. The climate is cool and continental, which suits Sauvignon Blanc, preserving its high acidity and sharp aromatic definition. The wine is aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks rather than oak, a deliberate choice to keep the fruit clean and protect the fresh, floral character of the grape, with no wood flavour to mask the site. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose is generous, with lemon and green apple, white flowers and elderflower, and a subtle smoky, flinty note over faint lactic depth. The palate is dry and precise, with citrus peel, a firm mineral core and a long, saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is a classic partner for shellfish, fresh goat cheese and river fish.
