De Fermo makes this Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore from Montepulciano, barrel aged for eight months. Deeply coloured and biodynamic at 13%, the 2024 is fruit-driven, with wild cherry, red plum and a savoury, structured palate.
Description
De Fermo farms biodynamically in Italy's Abruzzo, and Le Cince is its Cerasuolo, the region's deeply coloured rosé made from Montepulciano. Unlike pale Provence styles, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a cherry red wine with real depth, made from a dark, tannic grape given enough skin contact to draw colour and structure before pressing. The vines grow on clay and limestone soils between the Apennines and the Adriatic, where mountain altitude and sea breezes give cool nights that preserve acidity and aromatic detail. After fermentation the wine ages around eight months in wood, which softens its grip and adds a savoury, faintly spiced complexity without masking the fruit. Biodynamic farming and native-yeast fermentation keep the wine's character tied to its site. The colour is an intense cherry pink. The nose shows wild cherry, red plum and dried herbs, and the palate is dry and structured, with juicy red fruit, fresh acidity, a light tannic grip and a long savoury finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees in a red wine glass. It pairs with grilled meats, tomato dishes, charcuterie and roast vegetables.
