A single cask off the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, a 1998 vintage aged nineteen and a half years in ex-bourbon and bottled at 44.8% by Maison Ferrand for the Plantation range.
Description
This Plantation single cask draws on the Port Mourant double wooden pot still at Diamond, the greenheart still that defines the heaviest Demerara profile. A 1998 vintage aged nineteen and a half years in ex-bourbon, it was bottled by Maison Ferrand at 44.8%, with the house known for double ageing in France.
Port Mourant in the house style runs oily and pungent, leaning on anise and liquorice, prune and plum, pencil shavings and a savoury edge of tar and smoke, with long ex-bourbon ageing expected to round it with vanilla and oak. Maison Ferrand openly uses dosage across its rums, so a touch of added sweetness would not be a surprise here even on a single cask. A long-aged, characterful Demerara.
