Chocolate, caramel, coffee and coconut with dried fruit and warm spice, an 11 year unsweetened El Dorado pot-still blend at 57%, richer and stronger than the standard range despite the misleading high-ester label.
Description
An unusual official bottling from Demerara Distillers, blending pot-still rum from the John Dore still with the LBI and DHE marques. Distilled in 2012 and aged eleven years, it is one of the rare El Dorado releases that arrives at higher strength and, importantly, without added sugar.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 57%, it shows chocolate, caramel, coffee, coconut and dried fruit over warm wood spice, with a touch of gluey fruit ester from the pot-still component. The high-ester name oversells the funk, but as a richer, drier El Dorado at higher strength it lands well, especially for drinkers used to the sweeter standard range. A satisfying neat sipper that shows a different, more honest side of the DDL house.
