An El Dorado distillery release at twenty-five years and a gentle 43%, rounded and dosed in the house manner, with caramel, brown sugar and dried fruit over toasted wood and a light, nutty bitterness.
Description
This is a distillery bottling from Demerara Distillers under its El Dorado brand, a Grand Special Reserve drawn from the 1992 vintage and held twenty-five years. Like the familiar El Dorado age statements it is sweetened, which lends the rounded, dessert-like softness that defines the line as much as the stills themselves do.
Reduced to 43% and matured in ex-bourbon, it is built for ease rather than intensity: caramel, raisin and toasted notes on a round nose, a sweet, velvety palate of raisin and toasted wood, and a finish of dried fruit, wood, nuttiness and black tea with a touch of light bitterness. The age adds layers and depth over the standard releases while keeping the same approachable, low-heat character. It works best as a relaxed evening sipper and a comfortable step into older Demerara for drinkers who like the regular El Dorado but want more maturity.
