Description
El Dorado 3 is the young, light, white end of DDL's Demerara range, a 3 year old molasses rum from the Diamond distillery. Where the older El Dorado flagships lean dark and dessert-like, this one is pale and breezy, made with cocktails rather than neat sipping in mind.
Bottled at 40%, it offers vanilla, coconut, citrus and a little brown sugar and caramel, though the alcohol shows through and the nose stays fairly muted. Most drinkers reach for it as a reliable, lightly flavoured mixer that brings a touch more character than a basic white rum to a Daiquiri or Mojito. At a fair price it is an honest, easygoing workhorse, more useful behind the bar than in a tasting glass.
