A thirteen year single cask from Marie-Galante distillery Bielle, selected by David’s Rum Selection and aged in ex-bourbon at 47.7%, woody and rounded with dark chocolate, citrus and vanilla over a vegetal, herbal close.
Description
Bielle is a Marie-Galante distillery known for cane-variety experiments and characterful agricole, and this 2009 is a single cask chosen by independent bottler David's Rum Selection. Drawn from fresh sugar cane juice and matured thirteen years in ex-bourbon, it is bottled at a natural 47.7%.
As a single cask it shows the producer's mature, wood-influenced side rather than the snap of a blanc. The nose is woody and round with citrus and chocolate, leading into a palate of oak, dark chocolate, ripe fruit and vanilla. The finish turns vegetal, spicy and herbal with a citrus thread, hints of licorice, eucalyptus and caramel rounding it out. Tropical ageing lends real depth without tipping into heaviness, making this an elegant, gourmand vieux for slow sipping from a distillery that consistently rewards a closer look.
