From the Ofelia estate in Rias Baixas, Bodega Davide blends Albarino with Godello into this unfiltered white. Nine months on the lees in stainless steel and two in bottle give it lemon, green apple and a briny, coastal freshness.
Description
Bodega Davide is one of the oldest wineries in the Rias Baixas, founded in 1902 by the Acha family, and it works the vineyard through what it calls reflective viticulture, a practice built on pausing and observing the vines. This unfiltered white comes from the Ofelia estate in Bailon and blends Albarino with Godello. The Atlantic climate of Galicia is cool and damp, and the maritime influence keeps natural acidity high, while granitic soils lend the wine its saline, mineral cut. It is aged for nine months on its lees in stainless steel and a further two months in bottle. The steel preserves primary fruit and freshness, while the extended lees contact builds texture and a subtle savoury depth without softening the acidity. Leaving the wine unfiltered retains more of that lees character and mouthfeel. It shows a pale straw colour, with lemon, green apple and white peach on the nose lifted by white flowers. The palate is crisp and saline, with pear fruit and a long, briny finish that reflects its coastal origin. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is a natural match for shellfish and grilled white fish.
