Cinnamon and nutmeg arrive first, warm and resinous, with a juniper backbone dialled up well past the standard recipe. Bottled at a full-bodied 57.1%, this Scottish navy-strength edition turns up the heat on every spice, finishing long with a gentle, sweet glow. Made for a Negroni that means business.

Description
Darnley's takes its name from a Scottish field where the family's juniper grew, and this navy-strength bottling comes out of their Fife distillery in small, carefully watched batches. The spiced recipe was already built around cinnamon and nutmeg, but here the juniper has been pushed higher and the whole thing bottled at 57.1%, the old measure that let gun crews fire even if the spirit spilled on the powder. The result is a gin with nothing held back.
The nose is all warm baking spice over fresh, resinous juniper. On the palate it is full and assertive, the pine sweetness of juniper wrapped in cinnamon and nutmeg, before a long finish that warms the chest and leaves a quiet sweetness behind. Reach for it in a Gin Old Fashioned, or pour it over a spiced tonic with a twist of orange zest.
