Description
Dario Princic Ribolla Gialla comes from Azienda Agricola Dario Princic in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, near the Slovenian border. Alongside Stanko Radikon and Josko Gravner, Princic is one of the local pioneers of non-interventionist farming and one of the leading producers of orange wine. The Ribolla Gialla, a native Friulian white, grows on the region's marl and sandstone ponca soils, which give the wine its savoury mineral backbone and firm structure. The grapes are given extended skin maceration, which Princic favours because the skins generate natural preservatives during the long contact, reducing the need for added sulphur. That extended maceration extracts substantial phenolics and tannin, giving real grip, while slow oxygen exchange during ageing builds an oxidative, nutty depth in place of fresh primary fruit. It is natural, organic and vegan. The colour is deep amber. The nose shows dried apricot, orange marmalade, roasted nuts and beeswax, with dried herbs and a honeyed note. The palate is full, dry and firmly textured, the skin grip and savoury core carrying through a long, earthy finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees in a large glass, decanting ahead.
