D’Arenberg’s Stump Jump GSM blends Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre from McLaren Vale, named after a pioneering South Australian plough. Farmed biodynamically, it shows ripe red berries, plum and a warm, peppery finish.
Description
The Stump Jump GSM is D'Arenberg's Rhône-style blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre from McLaren Vale, South Australia, named after the Smith brothers' nineteenth-century plough that let settlers work the region's root-bound mallee soils. The blend follows the southern Rhône model: Grenache brings ripe red fruit and warmth, Syrah adds colour, pepper and structure, and Mourvèdre contributes savoury depth and firm tannin. McLaren Vale's warm Mediterranean climate ripens all three fully, while the maritime breeze off Gulf St Vincent preserves freshness. The fruit is farmed biodynamically and organically, with vegan production. Ageing in oak rounds the tannins through slow oxygen exchange while keeping the focus on fruit. The colour is bright ruby-purple. The nose shows ripe red berries, plum, dried herbs and black pepper. The palate is medium to full bodied with soft, supple tannins, warm alcohol and a peppery, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is a flexible match for grilled meats, sausages and roasted vegetables.
