A gentle entry into Guadeloupe agricole, this 3 year cane-juice rum leans dry and woody, grassy sugarcane meeting vanilla, apple and dried fruit, an unsweetened, easygoing starter rested in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a calm 42%.
Description
Damoiseau is the largest distillery on Guadeloupe, and this VO is a cane-juice agricole from the island, which sits under the more flexible IGP rather than Martinique's strict AOC. It is distilled on a column still from fresh-pressed cane juice and rested in ex-bourbon oak for three years, a core-range bottle built for accessibility rather than intensity.
Because the base is fresh juice rather than molasses, the grassy, vegetal cane character runs through everything, here in a soft, light frame. Expect dried fruit, vanilla and spice on the nose with that sugarcane thread, then a dry, woody palate edged with grass, closing on roasted oak and tannin. At 42% it is calm and uncomplicated, a low-stakes way to test whether the dry, grassy agricole profile appeals, equally at home in a Ti Punch or sipped slowly.
