Description
From Claxton's, a 9 year old Dalmunach, distilled in 2016, from cask C25139, bottled at 58.3%, one of 348 bottles. Dalmunach is a large modern Speyside distillery at Carron, built in 2015 on the site of the old Imperial distillery. The clean, fruity make is a model of the modern Speyside style.
It was distilled in copper stills on Balintomb Burn water, for a bright, modern Speyside spirit. A Madeira cask added raisin and a caramelised nuttiness. In its extractive youth the cask lends vanillin vanilla and lactone coconut to a bright, clean spirit. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses by the Spey. Dalmunach's modern, efficient stillhouse gives a consistent, fruity spirit. Refill oak lets the fresh Dalmunach character lead, apple and citrus beneath. It is a young distillery, so most bottlings are independent single casks of modest age.
At cask strength 58.3% it is full bodied. A light, clean fruitiness, with plum and red berry from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the young spirit shining through. The finish is clean, bright and fruity. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
