Description
From the independent Dràm Mòr, a 6 year old Dalmunach, from cask 646, bottled at 58.2%, one of 242 bottles. Dalmunach is a large modern Speyside distillery at Carron, built in 2015 on the site of the old Imperial distillery. It is a young distillery, so most bottlings are independent single casks of modest age.
It was distilled in copper stills on Balintomb Burn water, for a bright, modern Speyside spirit. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the clean spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a bright, fruity spirit. The light, fruity spirit takes cask flavour readily while keeping its fresh, clean core. Refill oak lets the fresh Dalmunach character lead, apple and citrus beneath. Independent bottlers have been quick to release young single casks of this new distillery. Its eight stills stand in a striking circular cluster around a central spirit safe, a showpiece of modern design.
At its natural 58.2% it is concentrated. Apple, lemon and a clean malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft honey. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a fresh Speyside malt of the new generation.
