Description
This official Dalmore, an 18 year old, from 1998, at 44%, 3000 bottles in all. Dalmore, on the firth at Alness, makes one of the most luscious, sherried malts in the Highlands. Its flat topped wash stills and water jacketed spirit stills build a thick, rich, oily spirit.
Run through the distillery's unusual flat topped and water jacketed stills, giving the thick, oily spirit that drinks sherry so well. A wine cask finish layered dark fruit over the rich, sherried malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the sherry turning to marmalade, treacle and dark chocolate. Long ageing turns the fresh orange towards marmalade, dark chocolate, coffee and a warm spice. The Royal Stag style is built on rich spirit and deep sherry wood. The full bodied make rewards a long, sherried maturation in good wood. Most expressions are finished in aged sherry wood, giving orange, chocolate and treacle.
At 44% it is smooth and honeyed. A rich, sherried sweetness, with plum, chocolate and red berry from the cask. Beneath it run orange, dark chocolate and dried fruit. The finish is deep, sherried and dark. This is Dalmore's opulent, chocolate orange Highland style.
