Description
An 8 year old Dalmore from the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 2013, from cask 06025, bottled at 51.3%, one of 239 bottles. Dalmore is a full bodied, sherried Highland single malt from the shores of the Cromarty Firth. The Mackenzie clan ran it from 1867, and gave it the twelve pointed Royal Stag, after an ancestor saved King Alexander III from a charging stag in 1263.
The spirit was distilled for the thick, full bodied spirit Dalmore is known for, for the rich, full bodied make Dalmore is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding vanilla and a soft honey. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (caramel) over the full bodied malt. The Royal Stag style is built on rich spirit and deep sherry wood. The rich, oily spirit takes cask flavour superbly, especially aged sherry wood.
At its natural 51.3% it is concentrated. Marmalade, chocolate and a malty depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run orange, dark chocolate and dried fruit. A full, sherried finish ends on orange and dark chocolate. This is Dalmore's opulent, chocolate orange Highland style.
