Description
From the bottler The Bottlers, a 30 year old Dalmore, distilled in 1966, from cask 6868, bottled at 51.7%. Dalmore was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson and long run by the Mackenzies. Its flat topped wash stills and water jacketed spirit stills build a thick, rich, oily spirit.
Worked through flat topped and water jacketed stills for a rich, oily spirit, to build a rich, sherry loving character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft orange behind the rich spirit. Ethereal and old, decades draw the malt to a rich, waxy depth of sotolon, old oak and dried fruit. The thick spirit shows the sherry clearly, dried fruit and orange over a malty depth. The rich, dried fruit style runs through the core range, from the twelve year old upward. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the rich, sherried core over the years. The distillery stands on the firth near Alness, in the Northern Highlands.
At its natural 51.7% it is concentrated. A rich, oily chocolate orange, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a chocolate depth give it weight. It finishes rich, malty and warm. This is Dalmore's opulent, chocolate orange Highland style.
