Description
The bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers bottled this Dailuaine, an 8 year old, distilled in 2013, bottled at 47.5%, one of 1728 bottles. Dailuaine is the rich, malty Speyside single malt that helped build the Johnnie Walker blends. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
It was made in large copper stills for a rich, robust make, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. A Moscatel cask added grape, honey and a floral lift. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, malty and full. Dailuaine's heavy, malty make is prized by blenders for the body it gives. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood.
At cask strength 47.5% it is full bodied. Orchard fruit, malt and a warm spice, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, malt and a savoury edge. The finish runs meaty, fruity and warm. This is Dailuaine's heavy, meaty Speyside style.
