Description
A 15 year old Dailuaine from the bottler Brave New Spirits, distilled in 2010, bottled at 55.5%, one of 205 bottles. Dailuaine is a robust Speyside distillery at Carron, making a full bodied malt mostly for blends. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey.
It was worked through the big stills for a meaty, malty spirit, for a big, full Speyside spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanilla beneath the robust, full bodied spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and dried fruit) over the meaty, malty depth. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt.
Bottled at a cask strength 55.5%, it is rich. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and rich, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. The close is long, fruit over a rich malt. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real depth.
