Description
The bottler The Caskhound bottled this Dailuaine, a 15 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 312080, bottled at 55.7%, one of 354 bottles. Dailuaine is a Diageo Speyside distillery, its robust malt the backbone of many a blend. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends.
Worked through the big stills for a meaty, malty spirit, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the oak letting the heavy, malty character lead. At oxidative maturity aldehydes and esters lend dried fruit while ellagitannins add a drying, savoury grip. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years.
At a natural 55.7% it is full and honeyed. A rich, full bodied sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a malty depth give it weight. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is Dailuaine, a backbone of the great blends.
