Description
The bottler Silver Seal bottled this Dailuaine, a 14 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 11067, bottled at 57.2%, one of 233 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. Water comes from the Bailliemullich Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills.
The spirit was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, building the heavy Dailuaine style. An Oloroso hogshead lent fig, raisin and a savoury, nutty depth, the heavy spirit soaking it up. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the rich, malty core over the years. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
At a natural 57.2% it is full and honeyed. Malt, dried fruit and a rich spice, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is heavy, the fruit carried on a meaty, malty body. The close is long, fruit over a rich malt. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
