A Dailuaine of a 13 year old from the bottler Brave New Spirits, at 51.8%. Full bodied and fruity, with orchard fruit, malt and a warm spice. Founded in 1852, it was the first distillery to use the pagoda roof. A heavy, sherried Speyside malt of real depth. It once had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, the Puggy. This is Dailuaine’s heavy, meaty Speyside style.

Description
A Dailuaine of a 13 year old chosen by the bottler Brave New Spirits, distilled in 2012, from cask 300700, bottled at 51.8%, one of 255 bottles. Dailuaine was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, and was the first distillery to wear the pagoda roof. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well.
Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for a rich, meaty make that suits sherry wood. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the meaty malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. It passed to DCL and Scottish Malt Distillers in the 1920s and was later modernised. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood.
At its natural 51.8% it is concentrated. Dried fruit, malt and a rich, savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is heavy, the fruit carried on a meaty, malty body. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
