Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 13 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 307412, 16, 18, 25, bottled at 46%. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig.
Made in large copper stills for a rich, robust make, for a rich, meaty make that suits sherry wood. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft honey behind the rich malt. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, fruit deepening to dried fruit. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends.
At 46% it is smooth and honeyed. A rich, full bodied sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury spice fill the middle. The finish is deep, rich and savoury. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real depth.
