A Dailuaine of a 13 year old chosen by the bottler Global Whisky Limited, distilled in 2009, from cask 307383, bottled at 53.9%. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.

The spirit was run through the distillery's big copper stills, giving the heavy, meaty spirit at its heart. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the meaty, malty spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the meaty malt. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the rich, malty core over the years. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride.

At its natural 53.9% it is concentrated. Apple, dried fruit and a meaty edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a malty depth give it weight. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is Dailuaine, a backbone of the great blends.
