Description
The bottler UD - bottler bottled this Dailuaine, a 13 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 300738, bottled at 56.8%, one of 202 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. A fire in 1917 destroyed the maltings, and the distillery was rebuilt soon after.
The spirit was worked through the big stills for a meaty, malty spirit, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the meaty malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the meaty malt. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the rich, malty core over the years. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt.
At a natural 56.8% it is full and honeyed. A rich, full bodied sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is heavy, the fruit carried on a meaty, malty body. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
