The bottler James MacArthur bottled this Dailuaine, a 13 year old, distilled in 2000, from cask 82, bottled at 61.3%. Dailuaine is the rich, malty Speyside single malt that helped build the Johnnie Walker blends. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.

It was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for a big, full Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft honey behind the rich malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. A first fill sherry cask suits the robust spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards dried fruit, fig, leather and a warm spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice.

At cask strength 61.3% it is full bodied. A heavy, malty fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a rich malt sit behind the cask. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
