Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the bottler The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, an 11 year old, distilled in 2011, from cask 305101, bottled at 54%, one of 354 bottles. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
Distilled in large conical necked stills on Bailliemullich Burn water, for a big, full Speyside spirit. A Moscatel cask added grape, honey and a floral lift. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt.
At a natural 54% it is full and honeyed. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with plum, red berry and chocolate from the cask. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real depth.
