Description
A Dailuaine of a 10 year old chosen by the bottler Small Batch Bottlers Scotland Ltd, distilled in 2010, bottled at 55.8%, one of 283 bottles. Dailuaine sits at Carron on the Spey, a big, sherried Speyside malt rarely seen on its own. It passed to DCL and Scottish Malt Distillers in the 1920s and was later modernised.
It was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, building the heavy Dailuaine style. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a soft spice over the malty spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the heavy body fuller and richer. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice.
At a natural 55.8% it is full and honeyed. A rich, full bodied sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
