Description
A 10 year old Dailuaine from the bottler Master of Malt, distilled in 2015, bottled at 58.7%, one of 298 bottles. Dailuaine, founded in 1852, gave Scotch its first pagoda roofed kiln. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig.
It was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding vanilla and a soft honey. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, fruit deepening to dried fruit. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the heavy malt deepening. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.7%, it is rich. A heavy, malty fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run dried fruit, malt and a savoury edge. The finish is deep, rich and savoury. This is Dailuaine's heavy, meaty Speyside style.
