A Dailuaine of a 10 year old from the bottler Orcines, at 46%. Soft orchard fruit and a rich, meaty malt. Single malt Dailuaine is rare, so most come from independents. The name is Gaelic for the green vale in which it sits. Water comes from the Bailliemullich Burn on the banks of the Spey. This is one of Speyside’s heavier single malts.

Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the bottler Orcines, a 10 year old, distilled in 2013, from cask 317666, bottled at 46%. Dailuaine is a Diageo Speyside distillery, its robust malt the backbone of many a blend. A fire in 1917 destroyed the maltings, and the distillery was rebuilt soon after.
It was run through the distillery's big copper stills, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the robust spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig. A first fill sherry cask suits the robust spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and rich, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. The finish is deep, rich and savoury. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
