This Daftmill was bottled by the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, a 13 year old, distilled in 2006, from cask 039/2006, bottled at 57.4%, one of 621 bottles. Daftmill is a seasonal farm distillery, distilling only in the quiet weeks between sowing and harvest. The patient, restrained approach has made Daftmill one of the most sought after of the new distilleries.

Made in copper stills from the farm's own barley, for a refined, citrussy spirit. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the elegant spirit. By the integrating teens the spirit rounds out, ethyl esters building a clean orchard fruit over the grassy malt. The cool Lowland air gives a slow, even maturation in the farm dunnage warehouse. Barley is grown on the farm itself, malted nearby, in a true field to bottle approach. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey over a grassy citrus.

At a hearty 57.4% it carries real weight. Lemon, pear and a soft malt, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A grassy citrus and a soft oak give it lift. It finishes light, fresh and floral. This is an elegant, grassy Lowland malt of real finesse.
