Description
Monopole Blanco Seco is one of the classic dry Rioja whites, made by CVNE from Viura, the region's leading white variety. The grapes are grown by local growers in Rioja Alta on cool, loamy clay and alluvial soils, tended by hand through to harvest. This western, higher part of Rioja is cooler and wetter, which suits Viura and preserves the acidity that gives the wine its lift. This bottling is made in a fresh, modern style, young and unoaked, so the emphasis is on primary fruit, floral aromatics and a clean, mineral line rather than the oxidative, barrel aged character of traditional white Rioja. Fermentation at controlled temperature keeps the aromatics bright and the wine crisp. The colour is pale yellow with green glints. The nose shows green apple and lemon over white flowers and a touch of pear, with a citrus peel lift. The palate is dry, light and fresh, with bright acidity and a clean, faintly saline finish. At 12.5 percent alcohol it stays easy to drink, and the wine is vegan. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits fresh shellfish, grilled white fish, green salads and Spanish tapas.
